Spreadable Media

As technology has significantly improved in the last 10 years, it has given the audience far more power in the spreading of media. Platforms such as Youtube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all allow amateur content to be on the same platform as professional content. The extent to which this content is spread to the growing amounts of platforms all depends on how the professional company and the Audience share and send the content to other audiences. In the past in was all controlled though institutions as the majority of media was presented through Television, News papers and radio which could only be controlled by institutions. As this has changed with the advance in technology platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Youtube, it has allowed the audience to take control on what content is shared and through this it can go viral.

People share certain content because of several factors; Taste, Opinions, Agenda and sense of humour. Other like minded people then also share this content and its a repeated cycle as certain content is increasingly shared to the point that the content has millions of likes or views. A good example of this is the "Instagram Egg" several months ago an instagram account with a single photo of an egg became the most liked photo on Instagram.

The music video which our group has planned and are filming in under two weeks, could be shared through spreadable media for many reasons. I feel the audience who would potentially share our video will be an audience who are fans of Rap videos as this is the genre of our video. The style of the video and the costumes which the characters in the video are wearing, may also bring the video some attention. I feel if the video were to be shared multiple times it would be done through Instagram and Facebook.
